‘South Africa in Colours’ Rocks it in Montenegro!
I had a performance in Johannesburg the day after I landed back from my ‘European Debut with ‘South Africa in Colours’. The next morning, a Thursday, I flew to Zambia; had a photoshoot with Gareth Bentley and an interview on Radio Phoenix. I flew home to Kitwe for the night on the Saturday; drove to Mkushi on the Sunday and performed at MFest 2011 and then on Monday I flew back to Johannesburg. Monday night I found myself on another adventure for ‘South Africa in Colours’ – destination: Montenegro!
Let me just say here that even before touch down, I was in love. What an incredible, magical place..my Mother was upset that I didn’t take any photos during my stay but I think it’s just one of those things in life you need to see and experience to believe..and I didn’t get anywhere near the really pretty places apparently!
Our stage in the centre of all the activty in the Old City..
With a slightly smaller cast than in Vienna, 10 multi-talented dancers and singers and myself put on a high-energy show. Again over 3 days, the production showed off traditional South African dances, worked through some classic Miriam Makeba and Brenda Fassie – we brought that 2010 Soccer World Cup ‘fever’ to Budva with some Diski dancing and then I performed a laser violin and aerial violin set of some of my remixes.
It wasn’t easy to put together a completely new show with so little time in between Vienna and jetting off to Montenegro – but somehow the dancers managed new choreography and Jen (my agent from About Entertainment and entertainment co-ordinator for the production) wrote a new script, which they also managed to learn! It wasn’t a seated audience as it had been in Vienna, the stage was also outdoors and in the centre of the tourist-hub that is the ‘old city’ – there was just an amazing summer festival feel to the performaces! I had some nice feedback on my facebook page after the shows too:
Like I said, according to the locals and those that have had the chance to do more exploring than me, I didn’t see the really pretty parts – all of my time was spent in Budva and I saw a bit more scenery on the drive to and from Podgorica Airport – enough to convince me that I’d definitely like to visit Montenegro again.
I was interviewed live on the beach by a local TV station, they asked me about my ‘Zamfoot’ look on stage which was an interesting one to try and explain, there’s a nice summary on the Africa Village website ‘Colours of Beauty’ and you can see some stunning photos of the shows taken by Marko Radosavljevic in my photo gallery! Hvala Montenegro!
